Privacy Policy

Patch ("we", "us", "our") helps you diagnose lawn problems from photos. We try to collect as little personal data as possible. This policy explains what we do collect, why, and the choices you have.
1. Photos you submit
When you upload or capture a photo for diagnosis, the image is sent over an encrypted connection to our diagnosis service and to our third-party AI provider, Anthropic, so it can be analyzed. Anthropic acts as a data processor on our behalf under this privacy policy: they process your photo only to return the diagnosis, do not retain your photo beyond the API call needed to generate the result, and do not use it to train their models.
Diagnosis photos are stored on our servers for up to 90 days so you can revisit your history and so we can investigate accuracy issues you report. After 90 days, photos are automatically deleted. A small thumbnail is also saved locally on your device (see "On-device storage" below). We do not sell your photos, do not use them to train AI models, and do not share them with advertisers.
2. On-device storage (localStorage)
The following information is stored in your browser's localStorage on your device. It never leaves your device unless you explicitly send it to us through a feature (for example, when you ask for a diagnosis):
- Your lawn profile: ZIP code, grass type, sun exposure
- Diagnosis history: thumbnails, identified issues, dates, and recommended products
- Subscription state: free-tier diagnosis count, trial start/end dates, and paid status
You can clear this data at any time by clearing your browser's site data for Patch, or by uninstalling the app.
3. Email (optional, seasonal tips)
If you sign up for seasonal lawn tips, we store your email address to send you those messages. You can unsubscribe at any time using the link in any email.
4. Analytics
We use Google Analytics and Microsoft Clarity to understand how people use Patch — which screens they visit, where they get stuck, and which features actually help. These tools may set cookies and record anonymized session information (such as clicks, scrolls, and page views). We do not send your email address, lawn photos, or diagnosis content to these analytics providers.
5. We do not sell your data
We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal information to third parties. We do not share your data with advertisers. We share data with service providers (such as our hosting and AI providers) only as needed to operate Patch.
5. Amazon affiliate disclosure
Patch is a participant in the Amazon Services LLC Associates Program, an affiliate advertising program. When we recommend products in your diagnosis results, the "Buy" links go to Amazon with our affiliate tag (patch-20). If you make a purchase after clicking one of those links, Amazon may pay us a small commission at no additional cost to you. This helps support the app. Affiliate links are shown to all users, including users on the free tier.
Our recommendations are based on the diagnosis, not on commission rates. You are never required to buy anything we suggest.
6. Subscription terms
Patch offers a free tier with 5 lifetime diagnoses, an optional 7-day free trial of unlimited diagnoses, and a paid plan at $29/year for unlimited diagnoses and full history. Subscription status (free, trial, or paid) is stored on your device. Billing, when enabled, will be processed by a third-party payment provider and is governed by our Terms of Service.
7. Children
Patch is not directed to children under 13 and we do not knowingly collect data from children under 13.
8. Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, delete, or correct personal information we hold about you. Because most of your Patch data lives on your own device, you can exercise those rights yourself by clearing the app's data. For email-related requests, contact us at the address below.
9. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. We will revise the "Last updated" date at the top when we do. Material changes will be highlighted in the app.
